The young woman subletting my apartment is of the new generation and has no use for a home telephone/landline. My telephone service comes through the Internet so it is not a backup for a blackout – it really is redundant if you have a good cell phone.
When I called Time Warner today to disconnect the service they warned me, “You do know that without a landline, emergency services will not know your address immediately when you call 911. Those precious seconds could be the difference between life and death.”
